You all laughed at the thought of Neymar joining Real Madrid, didn’t you? Well, get prepared to be shocked as PSG have just accepted a €300 million bid from Real Madrid. The Brazilian playmaker is set to join Madrid this January.
But why? Neymar was known for having disputes with Barcelona once he left, as he threatened to sue them for €26 million because they didn’t pay his loyalty bonus. He later mocked the Barcelona board later and that has weakened the relationship between him and Barcelona’s board. He has even had several conflicts with teammates such as Edison Cavani and their manager Unai Emery. Aside from that, he has publicly displayed his shock “by the low quality of football in France” and that he is unmotivated by winning Ligue 1.
Many have wanted Neymar at the club since, with Los Blancos captain Sergio Ramos has welcomed the Brazilian youngster at the club, as he openly admitted former-Barcelona star Neymar is “a great talent”. Even Casmerio, Neymar’s international teammate has said he would want to see Neymar at the Bernabéu. With an aging and struggling Ronaldo, it’s clear Madrid need to start buying or growing young talents. They already have several youngsters, such as Asensio, Isco, Theo Hernandez, Dani Cabellos, Casmerio, Varane, Vazquez, Kovacic, and now Neymar.
Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is known for not being too happy with this deal as Neymar is the replacement for the 32-year-old. But why would Real Madrid replace the 5-time-Ballon d'Or winner with that “money-grubbing snake”? If you compare the two this season(league), Cristiano has just 4 goals, 10 successful dribbles, 301 passes and 0 tackles. In comparison, Neymar has 9 goals, 89 successful dribbles, 775 passes and 15 tackles to his name(stats as of December 15th).
But as a former-Barcelona star, Real Madrid knew they would have to offer Neymar a huge amount, and they did just that. Neymar could earn up to €600,000 a week after tax, one and a half times Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary of €400,000 a week. Neymar also claimed that he wasn’t tempted to leave for the money, but the success. “I dream of winning it(the Ballon d'Or) one day, and Real Madrid can help me achieve that,” said Neymar in a press conference recently. Neymar will be seen at the Santiago Bernabéu around January when the transfer window opens.
