Juve did not have the greatest start to the 17-18 season, even if the Old lady had an incredibly successful 16-17 season. To make things worse, their star Gianluigi Buffon seems set to leave. Last year the Italian star said he had one year left on his contract and will stay for another year if Juve can win the Champions league. However, as the Old Lady lost to Barcelona and key players like Leonardo Bonucci, Dani Alves and more departed, it seems rather unlikely. Juve still have class keepers such as W. Szczęsny and they are on the verge of signing Italian youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma. The 39-year-old may have had great success between the sticks for the Italian giants Juventus, but he will be heading of to the league where most legends end their career - the MLS.
Currently 2nd on the table, New York City FC will be signing the star, as Buffon will re-unite with former team mate for club and country, Andrea Pirlo. The Italian giants definitely don’t want to lose their star man for free next summer, and as a result are asking for a goalkeeper world record fee of €42 million. NYC FC agreed, which also makes Gigi the most expensive 39-year-old ever. Buffon will land on American soil next week after he receives a farewell from the Juve supporters. NYC FC manager and Arsenal legend Patrick Viera went as far as to call Buffon one of the greatest keepers in football history. New York City FC also nearly doubled his salary, making it €150,000 a week on a two-year-deal.
